Welcome to our new website. It is a big day for me as I can finally tell the world about my secret project for the last 18 months. With the great help of good friends, we have now finally launched the site.
As a fresh collector in 2014, I knew very little about Super 8 when I bought an Eumig 810D, and I quickly fell in love with the world of this format with all its colorful covers. But there were so many questions like: Which films were made? Did a certain film exist in color and sound? An idea of a free online database started to form, and I guess I am crazy enough to start on a huge task like this.
I started the Super8database project in the summer of 2018. The goal was to make a freely available database of all (English) films produced with cover images and metadata about distributors, actors, script writers and directors. It will be next to impossible to get a complete list of all released Super 8 films, but over the years I hope to improve the database bit by bit to get an ever more complete database.
Super8database has been programmed by me with some help of my wife Heidi. We are both working as programmer by day, and it is great to have a pet project at home.
The registering of data to the database is an endless amount of work, and this project would not have been possible without the help from friends. Some have spent hours entering data and cover shots, some have provided cover shots we would otherwise not have been able to provide. A huge thank you to all of you. A special thanks to Greg Perry for his vast amount of data entering and helpful feedback during the process, and to Super8warehouse and Rake Enterprises for a huge amount of cover scans.
As the amount of films produced is vast, the content of this database is far from complete. The number of films in this database will grow over the years as we proceed with the data entering. If you don’t find a film in the database, it doesn’t mean it was never produced. But we will keep on working with the data to improve it as best as we can over time.
