Update for November 2021

This update at a glance:

  • We are going to the Blackpool Convention
  • Change of labels for sound
  • Support of films with unknown reel size
  • We have passed 7500 films

It is now less than a week until the Blackpool Film Fair 2021. I had planned to be there last year as well, but Covid-19 put a stop to that. Now, a year later and being fully vaccinated, I am ready to be there for a second time. Greg will also be there, and we both look forward to meet friends and other collectors. Please do not hesitate to come and speak to us if you see someone wearing clothes with a Super 8 database logo.

We have made a little change for sound labels. We previously marked films as Silent, Sound, Stereo and Optical. Now it will be Silent, Magnetic Mono, Magnetic Stereo and Optical Mono.

Up until now we have been very strict not to add a film unless we know the reel size. This will still be the main rule as we don’t want pieces of information where still things are unclear. But this also made it more difficult to systematically add films from catalogs as some distributors did not state the reel size but rather the runtime of the release. One such distributor is P.M. Films where we have a catalog ready to be added. I have therefore made a change to the software so it will be possible to add a film without the reel size if the runtime is known. The films will then be shown like this:

A film without a known reel size

This way we can start adding the films from the P.M. Films even if we don’t know the reel sizes yet.

And one last thing before we wrap up for this time: I am excited to say we have just passed 7500 films, and more than 2400 of them have a cover. This is a project for the years to come, but maybe we can aim for 10.000 films before the end of next year?
